Canon unveils latest PowerShot lineup featuring specialized 4K vlogging video camera
Published Date: May 21, 2023 |Canon introduces the inaugural offering from its latest PowerShot V series, the V10 4K vlogging camera. Designed with mobile YouTube and TikTok creators in mind, this camera enables users to elevate their creative content and move beyond smartphone-based filming.
While reminiscent of the Flip video camera from Pure Digital back in 2007, Canon’s PowerShot V10 takes the compact and lightweight approach to cater specifically to the needs of modern live streaming and vlogging content creators. Measuring 63 x 90 x 34 mm (2.5 x 3.5 x 1.3 in) and weighing 211 g (7.5 oz), the camera features a 1-inch-type back-illuminated CMOS sensor and is powered by a Digic X image processing engine. It enables 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) video recording at 30 frames per second or 1080p at 60 fps.
At the front, the camera features a fixed 19-mm (equivalent) lens with an aperture range of F2.8-F8. It offers a wide viewing angle of 97.5 degrees for videos and 100.2 degrees for stills. The camera provides a light sensitivity range of ISO125 to 12,800 in photo mode, ISO3,200 for 4K recording, ISO6,400 in Full HD, and includes a three-stop ND filter along with various movie filters. The PowerShot V10 is equipped with face-tracking contrast-detection autofocus, frame AF for product reviews, 3x digital zoom, and electronic image stabilization.
The camera is designed to be operated with one hand and features a convenient flip-up 2-inch touchscreen interface with a resolution of 460k dots for easy control, live view, and playback. It can also be placed on a flat surface or hung from a nearby branch using the included kickstand, and there is a tripod mount for added setup flexibility. For audio recording, the camera includes built-in stereo microphones that support 16-bit/48-kHz audio quality. Additionally, a third microphone is incorporated to assist with background noise suppression. The camera is battery-powered and includes a 3.5-mm jack for connecting an external microphone if desired.
The V10 camera does not have built-in storage, but it offers a microSD media slot for expandable storage. Livestreaming capabilities are available through the Camera Connect mobile app. If you’re capturing content at home, the camera can be connected to a router via 802.11n Wi-Fi to directly stream video to social media platforms using the app. Additionally, it includes an HDMI micro output and can be used as a UVC/AUC-compliant webcam. The V10 will be available for purchase starting next month in black or silver, with an expected price of around US$430. Watch the video below for more information.
